One thing we always like to encourage for Skye is some imaginative play opportunities, it helps to build her skills, she has lots of play therapy at her school and we try to continue that at home. Trouble with this is she isn’t that keen on toys, she is more of a book worm, she does however like little hand held toys and she loves anything pink! So when I was offered a chance to review some of the Littlest Pet Shop range I of course said yes and we were sent 3 of the sets out to try out.
We were sent the Blythe Bedroom Set, the spa, the treat bar and 2 packs of pets.
A theme that runs through all the sets is how customisable they are and there is lots of pieces that you are free to attach where you want, and then you can remove them and put them somewhere else. I built the sets whilst Skye was at school so they were ready to play with when she got home, the sets are aimed at ages 6+ and I’m sure a 6 year old would easily be able to build them freely, but Skye doesn’t have the motor skills or the patience! I made a video for our YouTube channel of the contents of the box, the build and the features of each kit.
The Blythe bedroom set is a 95 piece set and comes with a Blythe doll and a Penny ling pet, the house is single storey and the whole front of the house opens up for you to access the bedroom area. The set come with a bed, a bedside table, lamp. light shade, chair, mirror and of course Blythe & Penny Ling. It was really easy to slot it all together and there is a cute little roof area for Penny Ling to hang out on with her iPod and book. Skye liked that lots of the pieces are moveable and that you can open and close the gate and front door. We both found the fact that Blythe is a little head heavy and doesn’t stand up frustrating, she will only stand if you lean her against something!
The Spa come with Zoe Trent and is a lovely little additional set. It again is really easy to construct and like the bedroom set the free design element means you can really make it your own. The spa comes with lots of small salon gadgets such as scissors, hair dryer and hair spray. These are great for acting out treatments in the salon. The bath and sink give an added dimension of play as the pets all fit into the tub, Skye really enjoyed putting the pets in and out of the bath and pretending to comb their hair.
The treat bar was most definitely Cody’s favourite playset! He enjoyed pretending to buy treats and then feeding them to all the pets! The counter chiller is even realistic in the fact it opens and closes. So the child can put in and take out treats. The little stool to create an outdoor seating area is a nice touch also. The set comes with a Penny Ling character, she has removable tears, why the tears? Well the set comes with a sploshed ice cream which is obviously what Penny Ling dropped! Cody loved that he could make Penny Ling happy and then sad again
All of the sets have suble sided wall scenes so you can have double the fun playing, Blythes Bedroom can bea bedroom or you can flip it around and make it into a stage. They really are lovely little sets that offer lots of play opportunity. You can make a whole row of playsets and create a parade or the sets are stackable, so you can make a tower block.
Skye loves the sets as I knew she would! She enjoys the fact she can change the layout, move the pieces and she loves the pets, Zoey Trent seems to be her favourite, she has been walking around with her in her hand! The other great thing about Littlest Pet Shop is that you can bring the world to life digitally! Every Littlest Pet Shop pet you own comes with its own QR code, when you scan this it brings the pet to life on the app which is available for download. The more pets you own the more of the online world you unlock. The Littlest Pet Shop range gets a big thumbs up from us and we definitely recommend it.
The Littlest PetShop range is available from Amazon, Argos, Asda, Entertainer, Smyths, Tesco and ToysrUs with prices staring from around £10. You can get the Blythe Bedroom set right now from Asda Direct for only £20, thats a £10 saving!
Disclaimer: We were sent the above sets FOC for purposes of review I have been financially compensated to provide this post, it doesn’t however affect my opinion.
